Strengthening Maternal and Child Health Through Three Key Initiatives

Addressing Indonesia’s Health and Nutrition Challenges

The health of mothers and children is essential to building a healthier future for Indonesia. Yet access to essential healthcare services remains uneven across the country.

In 2025, Indonesia’s full basic immunization coverage reached 80.2%. Despite this progress, hundreds of thousands of children have yet to receive any immunizations.

Risks to maternal health also remain a concern. The 2020 Population Census Long Form recorded a maternal mortality ratio of 189 deaths per 100,000 live births, which later declined to 144 according to the 2025 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS).

At the same time, children continue to face multiple forms of malnutrition. Indonesia’s 2024 Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) found that 19.8% of children under five were affected by stunting, while 7.4% experienced wasting or a life-threatening form of acute malnutrition.

Three Initiatives by DIT and the Ministry of Health

To strengthen maternal and child healthcare, Danantara Indonesia Trust (DIT) is working with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health on three key initiatives:

  • Hexavalent Vaccines: Helping children who have never been immunized gain early protection against multiple infectious diseases through a single vaccine.
  • Strengthening the Vaccine Cold Chain: Improving vaccine storage and distribution facilities to maintain vaccine quality and safety, including during delivery to remote community health centers.
  • Multiple Micronutrient Supplements for Pregnant Women: Providing essential micronutrients to support maternal health throughout pregnancy and help prevent stunting from the earliest stages of life.

Building Lasting Change

Danantara Indonesia Trust works alongside the government, partners, and communities to strengthen healthcare services and make them more accessible to everyone.
